Environment Minister visits Obour Landfill

In May 2020, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, paid a visit to Obour landfill, where she listened to a detailed explanation of the facility’s operation works, future construction plans and the expected lifespan of the landfill.

The Environment Minister was received by ECWM Chairman, and the CEO. The Minister reviewed the operation process at the facility and compliance with the environmental and technical standards for operating the landfill.

It is worth to mention that the project includes Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and a landfill, where on-site environmental monitoring systems are applied. Approximately  4,000 tons of waste are received and treated on daily basis at the Material Recovery Facility to produce compost and refuse derived fuel (RDF), and the residual waste (final reject) is transported and disposed of at the landfill.

The Environment Minister was accompanied on the visit by the Governor of Qalyubia and a group of Ministry leaders, the, and representatives of Cairo Cleansing and Beautification Authority.
